Oxley

OxleyThe prestigious suburb of Oxley situated about 11 km from the city centre takes its name from Lieutenant John Joseph William Molesworth Oxley, a famous explorer who in 1823 came across and named the Brisbane River. Oxley enjoys two waterway boundaries, the Brisbane River and Oxley Creek, making this one of the most lovely suburbs in Brisbane.

Most of the dwellings in the Oxley area, around 91%, are stand-alone houses, with townhouses accounting for 7%. The area is characterised by tree-lined streets, having plenty of green areas, being quiet and encompassing many house styles ranging from modern brick and tile homes to older weatherboard styles.

The suburb is accessible from the CBD by taking Oxley Road over the Walter Taylor Bridge from Moggill Road, the Ipswich Motorway or the Centenary Highway connecting with Seventeen Miles Rock Road. Oxley also has its own centrally situated railway station, providing easy access to all areas of Brisbane.

More than 55% of homes in Oxley are occupied by couples with children, with 24% being occupied by couples without children. 18% are occupied by single parent families. Older residents become surrogate grandparents to the many children in the area while young families are regenerating the suburb.

Schools in the area include the Oxley State School, Oxley Primary School – Swimming Club, and other schools in the neighbouring Corinda area also provide a range of schooling options to Oxley residents.

Oxley enjoys close proximity to the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre and the Rocklea Markets, as well as its own Oxley Shopping Centre on the corner of Oxley Station Road and Cook Street, making a variety of shopping experiences accessible to residents of the suburb.
The thriving small business and commercial centre on one side of the railway line and good access to the retail sectors of Corinda and Sherwood, along with Oxley being close to the Ipswich Road with access to the Logan Motorway and the Gold Coast; makes Oxley a very popular suburb. Retailers such as the Harvey Norman Superstore and Bunnings are also close by.
